The Saco Community Meals Program was started over 18 years ago as a joint project of the Saco Council of Churches. While only a few of the original churches are still active in the program, other community groups and individuals have stepped in to fill the void. The program currently operates as part of community outreach by Most Holy Trinity Church. (at the outset, MHT provided its hall and kitchen facility for the program). Our mission is to feed the hungry and needy in our area. Dinners are offered twice a week, on Monday and Thursday from 4:15 to 5:30 pm at the church parish hall at 271 Main Street in Saco. While donations are always welcome, no fee is charged for the dinner.
Our clients represent those who are in need of a hot meal and food to get by. They are individuals, families, children, seniors and the homeless, who for one reason or another, show up at our doorstep. Many are disenfranchised due to the current economic climate. We are not here to judge, but to show compassion by providing a stop-gap against hunger. All are welcome who walk through the door. There is no registration or special requirements to participate as a client.
We usually feed between 45 and 55 persons at each meal. While a majority of our clients are residents of Saco, we serve clients from Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Dayton, Lyman and Buxton.
