RCIA: this is an acronym for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. The RCIA is a process whereby adults can learn about the Catholic Church and so discern whether to become Catholic Christians. If an adult is un-baptized, then the process leads to his or her baptism, usually at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night. If the adult has been baptized in another Christian tradition, then the process prepares this person to be received into the Catholic Church by making a profession of faith as a Catholic. After the baptism or profession of faith, the adult is then confirmed and makes his or her first Holy Communion at the same vigil. The adult has now received the three sacraments of initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.
There are separate sessions held for youth and children who will be participating in the RCIA program.
RCIA for Children - For children ages 8-11 (grades 3-5)
If your child has not been baptized, baptized in another faith or has not received First Communion or Confirmation the RCIA for Children is the process by which these children are prepared for the reception of these Sacraments.
