A businessman, a journalist, a sculptor, a professor, an Oxford philosopher, and an illiterate recluse. Six very different figures that are the focus of Bishop Barron's new DVD series, The Pivotal Players.
Over seven weeks we will have opportunity to study each in detail. We will see how God used each, in their own particular context, to be a pivotal player in the history of His great church. For some this meant rejecting their previous profession. For some it meant pursuing it with even greater urgency. For all it meant understanding that God wanted to work through them, where they were and who they were, to build His church.
This is no boring history lesson. This is a challenge to us individually. It is a challenge to see all of our lives - in church and out of church - as vessels that can be used by God. Your job, your occupation, the way you earn you living - these are sacred things through which God wants you to serve Him. There is no such thing as "secular" employment. All work can be, and should be, sacred. Your job, no matter whether exciting or mundane, fulfilling or frustrating, powerful or powerless, is a sacrifice waiting to be offered.
Come join us on our journey through the Pivotal Players. Join us week one, as we take a deep look at how God views your work. Walk with us as we look at three critical ways in which your daily work can be used to serve God, to serve your neighbor, and to bring you closer to Him.
Come join us as we learn from the Pivotal Players in the hope that we may become one of them!
